AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS PROVIDE ESSENTIAL COMMUNICATIONS FOR OUR COMMUNITIES.

Education

With the support of our local clubs, schools, and online resources, our licensed operators inspire and mentor (Elmer) newly licensed or unlicensed operators to learn and become proficient with Amateur radio, as well as preparing them for their FCC exam, should they wish to join the hobby! Everyone is always welcome. Our local clubs periodically provide classes and testing onsite for those interested in becoming a ham.

Amateur Radio SKYWARN Operations

Amateur radio is a vital part of the National Weather Service (NWS) SKYWARN system. The quick communication of severe weather reports and other weather information during severe weather outbreaks are an important part of the NWS warning process.  Timely and accurate severe weather reports enable NWS meteorologists to issue better warnings. The NWS has let us know over the years how they appreciate the support they have received from the amateur radio community over the years and that they hope to continue this excellent relationship into the future.

Events

One of the biggest ways we support our community is volunteering with communications. As federally licensed amateur radio operators we support various events in our area by supplying vital communications to organizers. This Includes:

  • Rally

  • Marathons

  • Race for the Rivers

  • Triathlons

  • Bike Races

EMERGENCIES

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is a part of the Amateur Radio Relay League’s (ARRL) extensive volunteer field organization dedicated to public service. ARES is comprised of amateur radio operators who volunteer to provide a resource of trained operators for primary and/or secondary communications for government agencies and non-profit organizations. Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in the ARRL or any other organization, is eligible for membership in ARES.
